House of Fraser launches first Android app on the Poq platform

We are delighted to announce that House of Fraser, the UK and Ireland’s premium department store group, has launched an Android app powered by the Poq platform. The app fuses the retailer’s online and offline worlds and guides shoppers at every step of their journey, including in store.

When a customer enters a store location, the app layout changes. The store mode’s barcode scanner unlocks additional information about in-store items, including product reviews and store stock levels for certain variations of the product, such as sizes or colours.

Effectively, when customers discover an item they like in-store, but the size or colour they prefer is not on display, they can check whether it is in stock at that particular store. If it’s not, they can find out at which other stores they can get the item, or order it via the app. Alternatively, if they discover an item they like but don’t wish to take it home just then, they can use the app to have it delivered to over 130 countries.

Thanks to our platform technology, we were able to develop and launch the app in less than three months after House of Fraser signed on as a client. Thanks to our API integration, the product information from the retailer’s e-commerce platform provider Demandware is always up-to-date on the app.

The House of Fraser app provides a seamless omnichannel experience. It empowers its users to access information quickly and make decisions faster, opening up new ways of interacting with the retailer on mobile.

Andy Harding, Executive Director of Multi Channel at House of Fraser, commented: “With the recent growth in mobile shopping, we see our mobile apps as an essential part of our multi channel strategy. Over 50% of our online sales come from handheld devices, and with a growing number of customers shopping via Android devices, it’s important we have suitable platforms for all mobile users.

We are extremely pleased with the design and functionality of the app, especially the ability it has given us to innovate on top of a stable e-commerce platform, giving us the flexibility to make changes to the app without requiring any additional bespoke development. We look forward to continuing the relationship with Poq to create many more world-class apps.
