Apps are continuing to disrupt ecommerce. As customers demand an omnichannel experience, retailers can’t afford to underestimate the important role that apps can play.
As we’ve made it to the end of Q2, let’s have a look at how the Poq platform has performed so far this year and how it has contributed to the growth of app commerce.
Downloads
Throughout the year we have seen an increase in downloads across the platform, amounting to a 14% rise between Q1 and Q2. This demonstrates the growth in popularity of our clients’ apps and the experience they provide. We’re not surprised to see these apps taking off, and we expect this trend to continue. Retailers on the Poq platform are really succeeding at going app and reaping the rewards.

Revenue per user
Not only have we seen the popularity of our apps grow, but across the year our clients have benefited from the success of their apps. One way to measure this is to take a look at the average revenue per user. This gives us an indication of just how valuable each user is. Whilst desktop and mobile have been relatively stable in this metric this year, we’ve seen our apps grow by 11% between Q1 and Q2. Additionally, in June apps on the Poq platform averaged 5.2x the revenue per user seen by mobile web and 3.7x that seen by desktop.

Revenue
Revenue has continued to grow throughout 2017 and we saw a 56% increase in revenue through the platform in Q2 compared to Q1. Although some of this can be attributed to seasonal shopping habits, we also associate this to the popularity that shopping on apps has gained and specifically the way our clients are utilising their apps to benefit from this.

Transactions
Apps on the Poq platform have seen an increase in transactions this quarter. When comparing Q1 and Q2 there was a 48% increase in transactions whilst mobile web and desktop only saw a 7% increase across the same time period. We’re excited to see how the relationship between app, mobile web and desktop develops in the future and how this will impact transactions across all channels.

Finally, apps on our platform have continued to maintain a returning user rate of 67% this quarter, which is more than 2x that of mobile web and desktop. With apps providing such an engaging shopping experience we expect this trend to continue.
The shift in shopping habits towards mobile devices and the value of apps is demonstrated by the fact that apps across our platform now account for just over a third (34%) of mobile revenue and 22% of online revenue.
