Sew It Forward and Designer Jumble celebrate Fashion Revolution Day

”What happens when a society decides to change for the better? That’s the promise of Fashion Revolution Day” – this is a quote from Huffington Post’s Sarah Clark, summing up the armed call-to-action of Fashion Revolution Day perfectly.

The annual event serves to use fashion as a force for good, and marks the tragic day of Wednesday 24th April 2013, when 1133 garment workers were killed, and over 2500 were injured during the collapse of Rana Plaza factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Social and environmental catastrophes in our fashion supply chains continue. Fashion Revolution Day is sending out a clear message to Western manufacturers – enough is enough.

To support this cause, Poq decided to attend one of the numerous Fashion Revolution Day associated events taking place around London on the day…Sew It Forward Meets Designer Jumble at Westfield Stratford.

Designer Jumble was founded by Abigail Chisman, the award-winning former editor-in-chief of Vogue.com and is an innovative, independent popup shop, with community conscience and sustainability at its heart, it sells secondhand designer clothes & accessories at affordable prices.

The concept of ‘Sew It Forward’ was created by The Good Wardrobe and is devised to get London Sewing again with various knitting themed parties regularly thrown around the city. Good Wardrobe is your free style-sharing community hub, mixing the best ‘conscious’ fashion with services that prolong the life of your clothes.

The day featured activities for shoppers to enjoy, in aide of promoting craftsmanship and sustainable fashion, including:

  • Graffiti artists Pen Pushers created a live window art installation, on the theme of Fashion Revolution Wardrobe mending

Celebrity gallery of photos by Trevor Leighton, each wearing their clothes #insideout for Fashion Revolution Day, including Caryn Franklin (shown below), Mary Portas, LibertyLondonGirl, Caryn Franklin, Livia Firth, Bianca Jagger….

WEAR IT #INSIDEOUT

Together we can use the power of fashion to catalyse change and reconnect the broken links in the supply chain. Wear your clothes inside-out to help start the beginning of an industry-wide transformation towards a more sustainable future.

Show your inside out clothes on Instagram by tagging it@Fash_Rev and #InsideOut
