Now we’re well into February ’14, and our virtual wallets (though still a little bruised), are slowly recovering from the season of goodwill…When therefore could be a better time than the present, to reflect on Poq’s findings from our ‘Holiday Season Shopping Report’?

Here’s the breakdown of the top facts we’ve gleamed from our goldmine of stats for mobile commerce in the UK during November-December 2013 (taken from analysing the performance of mobile sites and native shopping apps powered by the Poq platform):
1. iOS’s share of mobile revenue
- iOS drove the lion share of mobile sales with 80% originating from iPhone, iPads and iPods.
2. Smartphone share is growing fast
- Smartphone share of online revenue was 13%, up from 8% in August’13.
3. iOS’s traffic sped past Android’s
- iOS devices continued to be the smartphone of choice in the UK, driving the majority of mobile traffic by 69% over Android. iPhone users not only browse more, they also spend more money, iOS AOV is 27% higher than Android.

4. Conversion rates: Desktop > App > Mobile site
- One of the most interesting insights was that app conversion rates are often closer to desktop conversation rates rather than to mobile sites.

5. Apps vs. mobile sites: Returning visitors
- With over 78% returning users, mobile apps retained more users, increasing our client’s loyal customer base.

6. App share of total mobile revenue is expanding

- Average app share of mobile was 35%, up from 15% in August ‘13.
