Apple, App Tracking and IDFA

Apple is planning to introduce changes to the way iOS apps request user authorisation to access app-related data for tracking the user or the device. Here’s what you need to know.

We at Poq appreciate that the current information available about Apple’s upcoming iOS 14.5 changes to its Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) is constantly evolving.

In order to help our customers navigate this complicated topic, we are compiling some FAQs on the implications for mobile apps, which we will publish in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, Poq has added support for Apple’s new AppTrackingTransparency framework with the version 18.1 release of our iOS platform. Customers running this version and higher will have the ability to push a pop-up message to users requesting access to the IDFA. For customers on version 18.1 or below, there will be no local request to access the IDFA and, therefore, no pop-up message will appear in the app.

Facebook has also only recently issued information on how it is preparing for the IDFA changes. We are currently working through this documentation to provide Facebook app marketing-specific guidance and answer related customer queries shortly.

Please don’t hesitate to contact your Poq Customer Success Manager if you have any IDFA questions or would like to have a more detailed discussion about your specific app requirements.
